After a week punctuated by daily presidential absurdities -- from insulting the Danish prime minister, to escalating the trade war with China, to attacking the Fed Chairman Jerome Powell -- an organization I thought would stand in strong opposition to President Donald Trump caved under the weight of his power. Iran's president has sunk the chances of imminent talks with Donald Trump by saying he won't hold discussions until the US lifts its sanctions on his country. Hassan Rouhani suggested any meeting with the US president without the lifting sanctions would be "just a photo opportunity" and that the White House "holds the key" as to what happens next. The comments appear to dash the hopes of a thawing of US-Iran relations, which had been raised at the weekend's G7 summit in Biarritz, France. Mr Trump used the gathering of world leaders to say he was open to meeting his Iranian counterpart. But Mr Rouhani said in a televised speech on Tuesday: "Without US withdrawal from sanctions, we will not witness any positive development.
