It is located west of the Italian Peninsula and to the immediate south of the French island of Corsica. Sardinia is politically a region of Italy. Sardinia's indigenous language and the other minority languages Sassarese , Corsican Gallurese , Algherese Catalan and Ligurian Tabarchino spoken on the island are recognized by the regional law and enjoy "equal dignity" with Italian. Due to the variety of its ecosystems , which include mountains, woods, plains, largely uninhabited territories, streams, rocky coasts and long sandy beaches, the island has been defined metaphorically as a micro-continent. The nearest land masses are clockwise from north the island of Corsica , the Italian Peninsula , Sicily , Tunisia , the Balearic Islands , and Provence. The Tyrrhenian Sea portion of the Mediterranean Sea is directly to the east of Sardinia between the Sardinian east coast and the west coast of the Italian mainland peninsula. The coasts of Sardinia [1, kilometres 1, miles long] are generally high and rocky, with long, relatively straight stretches of coastline, many outstanding headlands, a few wide, deep bays, rias , many inlets and with various smaller islands off the coast.

The Sardinians , or Sards Sardinian : Sardos or Sardus ; Italian and Sassarese : Sardi ; Gallurese : Saldi , are the native people and ethnic group from which Sardinia , a western Mediterranean island and autonomous region of Italy, derives its name. The ethnic origin of the Sardinians is hidden in the darkness of ante-historic ages: the ethnonym "S a rd" belongs to the Pre-Indo-European linguistic substratum, and whilst they might have derived from the Iberians , the accounts of the old authors differ greatly in this respect. Sardinia was first colonized in a stable manner during the Upper Paleolithic and the Mesolithic by people from the Iberian and the Italian peninsula. In the Late Eneolithic -Early Bronze age the " Beaker folk " from Southern France , Northeastern Spain and then from Central Europe settled on the island, bringing new metallurgical techniques and ceramic styles and probably some kind of Indo-European speech. The Nuragic civilization arose in the Middle Bronze Age, during the Late Bonnanaro culture , which showed connections with the previous Beaker culture and the Polada culture of northern Italy. The language or languages spoken in Sardinia during the Bronze Age is unknown, since there are no written records of such period. Other scholars theorize that there were actually various linguistic areas two or more in Nuragic Sardinia, possibly Pre-Indoeuropeans and Indoeuropeans.

The SCA thanks the President and Board of the Club Italia for having hosted this event, as well as its kitchen and watering staff for the excellent service provided on the day. We look forward to many more celebrations of this kind. For those who may not be familiar with Sardinia and the background to this celebration, we have provided the following overview of Sardinia in the context of this celebration;. This commemorates the "reawakening" of the Sardinian people when they revolted on 28 April against the domination of Piedmont in Sardinia by forcing the expulsion of the Piedmontese viceroy, Balbiano, from Sardinia. The revolt was spurred by the refusal of the King, based in Turin, to reinstate the basic rights of the people of Sardinia, which had been previously guaranteed by Treaty.
