Unknown to Elliott at the time, Alan Niven had instructed them to not discuss drugs during this interview, and even had a signal for them to them to change subject whenever drugs were mentioned — he rustled his copy of the LA Times. All day and long into the night, tyre rubber screeches on hot, shiny road surfaces. Forget it.
