Dita Von Teese has been performing in burlesque shows since , and today, at the age of 41, she looks sexy as ever. One needs to just glimpse at the photos from her performance at Revolution in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. And with more than 20 years experience, her confidence in herself has only grown. When asked if she feels sexier in her 40s than she did in her 20s, Von Teese, told Your Tango , "Definitely. I'd say between my 30s and now I've felt my best because I don't have to try to get acceptance from other people anymore. I feel very settled in myself, this is who I am.

Back then, the natural blonde began to experiment with vintage fashion and makeup and got a part-time job working in the lingerie department at Robinsons-May at Fashion Island in Newport Beach and Main Place Mall in Santa Ana. So I make that for myself, along with a hot tea or a hot water with lemon and ginger. Then I go to my workout, which kind of fluctuates. How I sweat: I was a Pilates student for about 15 years, but I tend to get a bit bored with things, so I started feeling like it had run its course for me — and I was having some issues with my hip. I decided to try some other things, and I was reading about strength training and working with kettlebells and weights.

Von Teese was born in Rochester, Michigan , the second of three daughters. This began at a young age and was fostered by her mother, who would buy clothes for her daughter to dress up. Her mother was a fan of old, Golden Age-era Hollywood films , and from her Von Teese developed a fascination with the actresses of that day, especially Betty Grable. She was classically trained as a ballet dancer from an early age, and danced solo at age 13 for a local ballet company. Though she originally wanted to be a ballerina , Von Teese states that "by 15, I was as good as I'd ever be. The family relocated from Michigan to Orange County, California , when her father's job moved.

Growing up amidst the female role models of the s to the s those who influenced my understanding of what women were meant to be , both from the West, where I have lived all of my life, to the East, where my heritage resides, the most fascinating of them all where the glamazons — those who had the guts to be as flamboyant as was possible.
